It’s been some time from when the Skyforge team released an open beta of the game in summer 2015, but in just a few weeks we will finally have a chance to taste the full experience of the new free to play PS4 MMORPG. So, what makes Skyforge different from other, typical RPGs?

The biggest distinction will be in the class system, where the developer promised that the players will have the freedom to develop and unlock their class as they play, unlike most RPGs where they have to make a choice at the very start of the game.

There are three categories: Attack, Defense, and Support and they combine in themselves 14 classes. Each class has its benefits and drawbacks, from close up combat to ranged attacks, and this will also make a unique and interesting experience for player, who will always have to be their toes.

As we look forward to the release of yet another addition to the list of free to play PS4 games, check out the Skyforge Announcement trailer below:

A Sci-Fi and fantasy hybrid title

The setting and the plot of Skyforge is pretty straightforward and easy to follow, and doesn’t risk too much in the MMORPG genre. It is set in a fantasy world filled with supernatural and science fiction elements. The main appeal of the setting are ultra modern weapons and cutting edge technologies that surround the player on every step.

The story of Skyforge plays with gods and their struggle to obtain control of the beautiful planet Aelion from hordes of attacking hostile gods. There are set combat missions, as well as trainings and character personalization with specific raids and player-versus-player action. The player-character is put into all of this as an immortal warrior, who gradually gains more and more power until becoming a God, gaining faithful followers during the way.

There are a lot of adventures and locations which the player can visit through a hologram globe(sort of a transport hub to navigate the planet) such as Dankit Island, Lander Forest, Isola Digs, and more. Most of these locations have a thin story line that is sort of repeating itself( defeat the bad guys, deflect the invasion), but other elements from the game do a great job making up for it.

As far as the combat goes, from the open beta its obvious that the game doesn’t revolutionise the genre from the gameplay standpoint, though there will be some specific combat moves and abilities that will surely spice up the game. What we have seen from the demo, the movement and the combat are pretty well coordinated.

In an effort to attract new players, Skyforge offers a variety of new packs and upgrades upon registration, as a sort of a welcome present. The developers are indeed working hard on polishing the final product, as in the last two days we can see the servers being prepared and maintained for what’s to come in the next period.

When we round up what we have heard and seen so far, the game sounds promising, but we have to wait and see will the planet of Aelion and its characters have the strength to prove our expectations right.
