Sublevel Zero Redux is a roguelike, loot-heavy homage to the old shooter games, but brings in modern aspects like random level generation, looting and crafting, and most challenging, permadeth.

The visuals are also produced in the style of retro shooters combining classic 8-bit style with neon lighting, and the music perfectly fits with the graphics and gameplay of the game.

As for the storyline, the player controls a rouge gunship stranded on a forgotten asteroid base, with dwindling resources and no support, as he is surrounded by enemies. The mission of the game is a classic fight-through-enemy-lines kind of objective, with old school boss battles and a campaign that gets progressively harder as you go through levels.

The game was initially released in 2015, but the small team wasn’t able to finish it completely due to lack of funds, and was waiting for a sponsor to finish their project.

Sublevel Zero Redux is out on PlayStation 4 March 8th
