Team 17 Digital’s The Escapists The Walking Dead is coming to PlayStation 4 this February. A fusion between Team 17’s hit 8-Bit title The Escapists, and inspiration from The Walking Dead comic series by Robert Kirkman, the new game will allow PS4 fans of the original to take on the role of iconic character Rick Grimes once more.
The Escapists The Walking Dead is out on PlayStation 4 on February 16 2016 and is being developed in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment.
Team 17’s latest offering sees Rick Grimes waking up in a hospital and coming face to face with walkers for the first time. This initial scene, as does the rest of The Escapists The Walking Dead’s storyline, follows the same timeline as that of Kirkman’s comics.
All in all, the game covers up to issue 83 of the comic, according to Team 17’s announcement, which is just over half of the current 159 issues of the continuing series. With a confirmed date of February 16, should PlayStation 4 fans of the two franchises also look forward to a second title as a continuation to the series? Fans of the Escapists will surely hope so.
In this first instalment Rick will explore the different places that feature in the comic series such as the Meriwether Correctional facility, Alexandria, and the Greene Family Farm.
The Escapists The Walking Dead also sees the return of the characters from the original The Escapists game including Carl, Lori, Glenn, Maggie, Abraham, and more. As the leader, players will be tasked with working with the rest of the team to keep the walkers away from the compound.
Rick will also need to make sure that all survivors are cared for whilst also utilising the crafting ability that lets players create over 70 different items to use in-game. Items vary from useful tools like shovels and cutters to weapons which include a pistol and a rifle.
In teaming up with Skybound Entertainment, Team 17 Digital has created what looks set to be another classic video game. Fans of the original hit game as well as those of the comic series will hope that it turns out that way.
