the last of us part 1 review

A trip down memory lane!

The last of us 1 is truly one of the most talked about games ever to be made, and rightfully so. This game is a rollercoaster of pure excitement fear and thrill. Personally, I love the game and I have played it more than once because it was just that good.

The game: The Last of US

The first game is where you meet the soon to be fan favourite character of Joel Miller. Subsequently you learn a small bit of what his life was like before the outbreak. Late one night, you come home to find your daughter Sarah awake and waiting up for you. This is because it is Joel’s birthday and Sarah wants to give you a gift. She gifts you the watch that will soon become a famous memento from the game.

A few hours later, Sarah wakes once more to find her father is yet again out of the house. As she goes down stairs, Joel comes in telling her to stay back as the neighbours are sick. It takes no time at all for us to encounter the very first infected character of the game. The infected breaks through the door and lunges at Joel. As quick as a strike of a match, Joel puts a round in the crazed runner. Father and daughter make their escape.

The Game Part 2 : The Last of Us

They are picked up by Joe’s brother Tommy and make a rapid escape out of town. Unfortunately for the three, A huge truck intercepts their path and completely ploughs through them. Sarah has broken her leg and must be carried. Immediately Joel and Tommy move rapidly to get to safety. All the while Joel is carrying his daughter.

They finally run into a soldier who stops them. Unbeknown to Joel, the soldier’s orders are to shoot on sight. The soldier does so and Joel and Sarah fall down a small hill. Tommy runs up putting a shot in the soldier’s head. Joel goes to help Sarah up but can’t. as he learns that one of the bullets has hit her and she is bleeding out in his arms. She passes out in his arms.

Fast forward twenty years later, Joel’s is now partnered with a fellow survivor named Tess. He has taken up a job in smuggling things such as weapons. Subsequently, a new job as come in, and it is from the leader of the rebel faction, the Fireflies Marlene. Upon arrival, you realise you are not smuggling weapons anymore, it’s a young fourteen-year-old girl called Ellie. In the game, difficult choices have to be made.

Your job Is to travel across the country to a hospital where the Fireflies have set up camp because Ellie is immune to the virus and can be used to make a cure. After the death of Tess, you and Ellie truly take on the toughest journey known to man and slaughter any bandits or infected which stand in your way!

Inside the last of us.

The game sees you travelling through many environments, whether it is the ice-cold snow-covered lodging areas or in the middle of deserted towns. You can truly feel the neglect of wherever you end up. You traverse dilapidated buildings, creaky old cabins and long grass covered plains.

The last of us would not be the game it is without the hordes of flesh-eating corpses we all know and love to kill, as there are many variants of infected, I feel I should list them. The infected come in different forms depending on how long they have been infected, the first stage of infection is the runner, a crazed maniac if you will who almost looks completely normal still.

As the fungus grows further, the host becomes a stalker, a sneaky fellow who hides and waits until the perfect time to strike. These are more noticeable due to the small amount of fungus growing on the face. The following the stage, is the famous clicker. At this point, the host as completely blind due to the fungus growing over the eyes and relies on echo location to move around and hunt its prey.

The final stage in the infection, is the most feared and infamous bloater! At this stage, the host has been infected for many years and the fungus has grown so much to the point where they are covered in fungal armour plates and are extremely hard to put down so stay clear if possible.
