Metro Redux

4A Games has announced the release of two Metro Redux free trials which are now available to download on PlayStation 4. The two demos,  – one for Metro 2033 Redux and one for Metro: Last Light Redux, will give PS4 gamers the opportunity to sample the story driven first-person shooters at no cost.

Based on the works of Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, the two Metro Redux games offer a mixture of an immersive first-person shooter story line that also includes stealth, survival horror, and exploration of what is now the ruins of a post-apocalyptic Moscow. For those who have not yet played any of these titles, you will take on the role of a young Ranger named Artyom in whose hands the fate of the whole world rests.

The first title in the Metro franchise was released in 2010 with Metro Redux, followed in 2013 by the sequel Metro: Last Light. At that time the titles were way ahead of their time and offered unparalled graphics in the PC gaming genre. The two titles have since been re-mastered to take advantage of the PlayStation 4 console’s capabilities and currently boast stunning 1080p visuals at 60FPS.

The idea behind 4A Games’ two free downloads is based on the premise that gamers can sample the two titles and if they like what they see can then go on to get the full editions of the game. A similar promotion has been used successfully in the past with games such as Doom, where players got up to a third of the games content for free.

Metro Redux Free Trial

The game’s developers state that although the samples may not do the complete FPS titles justice, the free downloads will hopefully ignite more interest from gamers. With over nine complete chapters that add up to hours of free gameplay for each game however, 4A Games has certainly offered up a rare offer in todays games market.

What’s more, once players complete the first nine free chapters they can purchase the full versions of the games and be able to continue playing Metro without losing their game saves. The two standalone titles currently  retail at £15.99/€19.99 so the free downloads provide excellent value for those gamers who would like to try befor they buy.
