Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) has revealed that its flagship gaming console, PlayStation 4, has now sold over 30 million units worldwide. The figures are as of November 20015, when the PS4 marked its second anniversary.
The more than 30.2 million units sold mean that the PS4 console is now officially the fastest selling PlayStation gaming hardware of all time. Prior to launching the then next-gen console, Sony would surely have hoped that the console would do well. But the numbers being posted by PlayStation 4 numbers keep astounding, even Sony might be surprised!
Either way, the machine has played a major part in the Japanese company ability to claw its way back to profitability after many years in the red.
Despite its obvious popularity, the PlayStation 4 console has also benefited from a strong line-up of both Sony’s and third party games. With a recent price drop in the cost of the console, and the Christmas season in full swing, the current numbers can only continue to rise.
Sony has shown commitment to back its console to the full through sevral exclusive titles, applications, a music service, and various other related content. The company also provides great value to PlayStation console owners through its PlayStation Plus membership service. Subscribers to the service get free games to play every month, as well as deep discounts on the PlayStation Store.
