Yooka Laylee

The KickStarter campaign for Banjo Kazooie successor, Yooka-Laylee, the next big project from a group of former game developers from Rare was over-funded within minutes. The 3D platformer took just under 40 minutes reach its funding target of £175,000.

The former British video game developer company, known for legendary Nintendo 64 classic games such as Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie have come together in order to form Playtonic Games (formerly known as Project Ukulele) to create a spiritual successor to their most cherished works from the past!

In fact, the game was named after its two major heroes: Yooka (the green chameleon with no pants) and Laylee (the purple lady-bat with the big red nose). These two creatures can use an arsenal of special moves. For example, Yooka will use his long lizard tongue as a grappling hook, while Laylee can apply a sonar blast or sky soaring (pick Yooka up and fly briefly with him).

Using this all-new duo, players will move through various game levels and explore 3D virtual worlds consisting of more than 5 distinct worlds drawn up by famous environmental artist Steven Hurst of Viva Pinata and Banjo-Kazooie fame.

  • Expandable Worlds – The playgrounds can be expanded by spending collectibles, and to become bigger and more challenging worlds.
  • A Cast to Last – A huge cast of well-known game characters.
  • Play Tonics – Unique gameplay modifiers; use them to run faster, fly further, hit harder, etc.
  • Arcade machines – Each game world hides at least one additional secret arcade game.

You will be able to experience this 3D platformer on your PlayStation 4 later this year as  Playtonic plan to release Yooka-Laylee for consoles, Mac, Windows and Linux by October 2016. However, it is possible that these game versions will not be released at the same time but the game has been definitely confirmed.
