The long awaited release date for football sim FIFA 17 is finally upon us. And gamers up and down the UK will anxious about getting their hands on their copy of the game. If you are one of those opting for the digital version heowever, be warned. The FIFA 17 download on PS4 comes in at anything up to a whopping 44GB of storage space!

When is the game Available?

EA has confirmed that both physical copies and the digital version will be available starting at midnight 28 September. Various outlets across the country will be open for the game’s’ release so if a physical copy is your preferred option you should be able to get a copy. The game has also been available for pre-order so physical copies should be landing on door mats on the 29th, while Digital versions of the game will be made available at midnight on the night of the 28th.

This is where it becomes tricky for those downloading the game. The game has also been available to download on the PlayStation Store as a pre-order but the massive amount of space it takes up means that downloading the game may take you a while.

How Long will the Download Take?

Download Times will of course vary depending on your broadband speed but no matter how fast yours is it’s better to prepare beforehand. A file that size would usually take around 1-2 hours over a 100 Mbps Ethernet connection and wireless connection will take even longer.

But still that is nothing like the times that were currently being reported at the time of going to press, as can be seen by some of the comments below.

The time it takes to download FIFA 17 is such an issue that gamers have taken to EA’s forums to complain about the games’ size and installation time.

Sample complaints look like this from a user named Richard: “Just mine that is taking forever? I have 70mb/s internet and it’s on 12% after like 1 hour.” Gareth90t commented : “6 Hours and I’m on 76%…”

The best advice is to start downloading the game as early as possible, and if you had pre-ordered the digital version then you would have had a chance to do that. As mentioned above, EA have confirmed that downloads will be unlocked at midnight  tonight.

Those willing to wait until the full game downloads may be better off leaving the console to download the game overnight. If you cant wait then EA also has you covered as gamers can while away the time by playing the game the developer has made available to play before full game is installed. Thats right FIFA 17 features a playable FA Cup Final match between Manchester United and Chelsea.

Ultimately, those that have paid for the game will get their hands on the prize eventually, just be warned and prepare for the game’s release. In any case the download issues may just be a case of servers struggling to cope with the current high demand.

If you have ordered FIFA 17 or you’ll be waiting in line tonight, -good luck, and have fun!
